  • Please accept my sincere condolences.

Condolenceというのは、誰かを亡くされた人が感じる悲しみを[共感](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/49577/)・[同情する](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/39134/)ことです。 フォーマルな印象の定番の英語表現です。 上記の言い方だと少しかたいので、次の表現を使うのもスムーズです。 I am sorry to hear about your loss. こちらはもう少しカジュアルで口語的です。

  • I'm sorry for your loss.

  • I don't know what to say...

    play icon

  • I can't imagine what you're going through.

    play icon

Please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss. 私の深い同情をお受け取り下さい。 (日本語にすると変ですが、こういった場合の決まり文句です) My prayers are with you during this difficult time. (この大変な時に、私もあなたと一緒にお祈りします。) I know how you feel and how much you miss your mother. (あなたの今のお気持ちやお母さんを亡くしてどれだけお寂しい思いをされているか、よくわかります) などと書くとよいでしょう。 ご参考まで。

When dealing with a death in someone's family is a very painful time in everyone's life. Always use words like " deepest condolences" and " heartfelt sympathy/sympathies" to help soften describing the person's pain of losing someone they loved . In English even if you are not religious it is an acceptable thing to say you are "praying for the family" or "the family is in your prayers". If you did not know the coworker's mother then you can say "I am so sorry to hear about your mother's passing. I hope that the love of family and friends will comfort and strengthen you in the days ahead"or "My condolences to you and your family on the passing of your mother . It is never easy to lose a parent, no matter the age" . If you did know the coworker's mother then you could say "Words are never adequate in moments like these. I will say though, that our hearts go out to you, and we will always remember the joyous memories that we are privileged to have in knowing your mother" or "My condolences to you at this sad time. Your mom was a wonderful woman. She always had a beautiful smile. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
家族の死と向き合うのは誰にとっても辛いことです。 “deepest condolences”(深い哀悼) や ”heartfelt sympathy/sympathies”(心からのお悔やみ) これらが、誰か愛する人を失った人の心の痛みを表すときに使える柔らかい表現です。 英語では、何か宗教を信仰していなくても、 “praying for the family”(家族のために祈っている) や “The family is in your prayers”(家族は祈りの中にいます。) という表現を使っても良いとされています。 もし、生前の同僚のお母様を知らなかったら “I am so sorry to hear about your mother’s passing. I hope that the love of family and friends will comfort and strengthen you in the days ahead” (お母様の逝去に本当にお悔やみ申し上げます。家族や友達の愛があなたの癒しとなりますように。) や “My condolences to you and your family on the passing of your mother. It is never easy to lose a parent, no matter the age.” (あなた、そして家族の方へ、お母様の逝去にお悔やみ申し上げます。幾つになろうが、親を失うのは決して簡単ではありません。) と言うことができます。 もし、その同僚のお母様を生前に知っていたら、 “Words are never adequate in moments like these. I will say though, that our hears go out to you, and we will always remember the joyous memories that we are privileged to have in knowing your mother.” (このような瞬間に言葉は決して十分ではありません。なんとか言いますと、私たちの心はあなたと一緒にあります。そして、お母様を知れてとても幸運でした。楽しかった思い出は、一生忘れません。) や “My condolences to you at this sad time. Your mom was a wonderful woman. She always had a beautiful smile. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.” (この辛い時期に、心からのお悔やみ申し上げます。あなたのお母様は素晴らしい方でした。いつも素敵な笑顔でいてらっしゃいました。私の心と祈りはあなたと一緒にあります。) などが使えます。

  • I hereby convey my sincere condolences on your mother's passing.

  • I am so sorry for your loss.

In the first message, I have used the verb 'convey', meaning 'to communicate' my 'sincere' (an adjective meaning genuine, real) condolences. I have also used the noun 'passing' instead of 'death'. It is ideal not to inflict more sorrow on the grieving person by using strong words like 'death'. In the second message, I have used the adverb 'so'. This is informal and it means 'very' or 'extremely'. It is the same as saying: I am extremely sorry for your loss, or I am very sorry for your loss. The noun 'loss' is used here instead of 'your mother's death', to soften the grief that the person is undergoing.
最初のメッセージでは、converyという動詞を使いました。 「自分の誠実な気持ちを伝える」という意味で使われます。 deathの代わりにpassingを使います。 悲しみに明け暮れている人に対して、直接的に強い言葉であるdeathなどは避けたほうがいいからです。 二つ目のメッセージでは、soを副詞においています。veryやextremelyのカジュアルな言い方になります。 つまりこれと同義になります。 : I am extremely sorry for your loss, or I am very sorry for your loss. 'loss' はこの場合、your mother's deathの代わりに使用して、その人が経験している悲しみをやわらかくする意味合いがあります。

If you know the person you are sending the email to quite closely, you can say 'I am sending you my love.' You could also say to them 'I'm thinking of you' to express how you care for them dearly. If the person you're sending the email to is not so close then you may simply say 'I'm so sorry for your loss'.
あなたがメールを送る相手のことを比較的よく知っている場合は"I am sending you my love"(あなたに愛を送ります)と言うこともできます。 心から相手のことを気に掛けていることを表現するために"I'm thinking of you"(あなたのことを考えています)と言うこともできます。 もしもメールを送る相手とそこまで深い関係ではない場合はシンプルに"I'm so sorry for your loss"(お悔みを申し上げます)ということができます。

When you write to someone often you can get a specific card that will offer your condolences. Condolences are an offer of sympathy on the death of a close friend or relative. You could also say "sincere condolences" which emphasises your expression of sorrow for your co-worker. Cards often have 'with sympathy', which is also a way of expressing your 'condolences' to your friend or co-worker.

I am very sorry for your loss. - This is something I would commonly use if somebody's relation/friend had passed away. It means that you feel sympathy for their loss. It is not an apology but rather an expression of sorrow. My condolences for your loss. - This is more formal. It would be used if you did not know the person that you are talking to/emailing very well.
I am very sorry for your loss. (お悔やみ申し上げます) - 誰かの親戚/友達などが亡くなったら、これを私はよく使います。 これは、相手の誰かを失った気持に同情します、という意味になります。 これは、悲しみの表現で謝罪しているわけではありません。 My condolences for your loss.

Fuji
