Often phrases like this are used before a piece of juicy gossip is imparted. Another common phrase would be 'believe it or not' ''Believe it or not, she's agreed to go to the dance with him'' You won't believe your ears! is a fun way of saying the same thing. Or 'you won't believe the evidence of your own eyes' if you are pointing something out that someone can see. 'Come and see his bedroom. You won't believe the evidence of your own eyes!'
ほかに、'believe it or not'もよく使われます。 ''Believe it or not, she's agreed to go to the dance with him'' (信じられないかもしれないけど、彼女は彼とダンスパーティーに行くことに同意した。) You won't believe the evidence of your own eyes'も使えます。 'Come and see his bedroom. You won't believe the evidence of your own eyes!'

- (While) This might sound a little hard to believe, but I was actually pregnant back then. - This might come as a surprise, but I was actually pregnant back then. --- sound a little hard to believe = 信じられないのように聞こえる --- come as a surprise = ビックリするぐらいのニュースになる --- actually = 実際は、実は --- back then = あの時 お好みに合わせて使い分けてみてください。

Whether you believe it or notです。
