  • Japan is famous for sushi, but I don't like it.

  • Japan is famous for sushi, but it's not my favourite.

Simply put, you can just say 'I don't like it'. If you need a more polite phrase and you're not fully ruling out sushi as a meal, then you can say 'it's not my favourite'. You will eat it if you have to, to be polite. "shall we eat at the sushi restaurant down the street?" "Sushi isn't my favourite but okay."
I don't like it."(寿司は好きじゃないです。) "shall we eat at the sushi restaurant down the street?"(この道の先にあるお寿司屋さんで食べる?) "Sushi isn't my favourite but okay."(寿司はあまり好きじゃないけど、いいよ。)

  • Japan is famous for sushi, but I hate sushi.

  • Sushi is a famous Japanese cuisine, however, I don't like it.

If you really don't like sushi, you can emphasize this by saying you hate it. Another way to put the sentence would be to refer to sushi as a famous Japanese cuisine. This is a useful adjective for sentences like this.

  • Japan is well known for sushi but it's not my cup of tea

  • When you think of sushi, Japan springs to mind immediately, but personally, I can't stand it

    play icon

To stand something = to tolerate something To spring to mind = to think/be reminded of something effortlessly To be one's cup of tea = to really like something 'To be one's cup of tea' is usually used in a negative sense. The positive version is; 'To be just one's cup of tea'. Eg. "A cruise on the river Nile is just my cup of tea!"
To stand something = 我慢する To spring to mind = 頭に浮かぶ To be one's cup of tea = 本当に好き 「to be one's cup of tea」は普通否定の意味で使われます。肯定の意味では「to be just one's cup of tea」を使います。 例: "A cruise on the river Nile is just my cup of tea!"

To tell somebody that Japan is famous for sushi, but you don't like sushi, you can do so in the following ways: "Although Japan is famous for sushi, I don't like it." "Japan is famous for sushi, but I don't enjoy it."
"Although Japan is famous for sushi, I don't like it."(日本は寿司が有名ですが、私は好きではありません) "Japan is famous for sushi, but I don't enjoy it."(日本は寿司が有名ですが、私は好きではありません)

  • I don't like sushi much.

  • Sushi and I are not friends.

The last sentence has a little bit of a sarcastic tone, making sushi an enemy (of your tastebuds). Sushi is an acquired taste, there are many people who don't enjoy it because it is a very unique meal and has a very distinct taste. Sushi is a dish that has to grow on you over time unless you fall in love with it the first time you taste it. Fan (fanatic): someone who supports and adores something or somebody. Distinct: very specific Grow on you: something you get used to over time
