"ladder" isn't necessarily a "staircase" however; it is a set of steps that can lead from one floor to another. Usually, workers or other individuals use a ladder to get to higher places that a staircase can't get you to.
"staircase" is like it is, a set of steps or stairs which is called a staircase.
"steps" can also be another name for stairs- it's levels of platform above another allowing one person to go from a lower level to a higher level.
Stairs is more usually used than staircase. Normally, staircase would be used in old English or if referring to an old mansion., but there is nothing wrong with saying it. Steps are also used but it would be within the context of how many is needed to get to the other floor. "To get to the first floor, you'll need to take the stairs which is almost 10 steps."
But no one says "Oh I'm going to take the steps today!" That isn't correct. Instead of steps, use stairs.
