to work on an internship は、インターンとして働く、という意味です。 <ボキャブラリー> a work place experience=職場体験 job trial=仕事のトライアル to work on an internship=インターンとして働く

国によって学生が[職場](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/27018/)体験をする文化がないのでちょっと難しいです。 みんなで行く、[見学](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/34612/)だけのようなことは学校の遠足という意味で"field trip" や "excursion"を使います。 Work place experienceは一番近いのかなと思いますが、そもそも職場体験というものが分からない人でしたら伝わらない可能性はあると思います。そこでもっと説明を入れて、"I went to learn about work at a supermarket" という「仕事について学ぶためにスーパーに行きました」の意味をする表現を使ってもいいと思います。 ちなみに、アメリカの学校にある似たようなことはTake Your Child To Work Dayという「子どもを職場に連れて行くデー」という意味の日はあります。この日に、親の職場で職場体験や見学をする日です。

internship - this is a short-term, temporary position meant to expose you to a career field and people who work in that field, but not necessarily meant to lead to a job apprenticeship - this is training and mentorship for some sort of practice or specific job. Usually it leads to a job.
internship - これは短期間で、一時的な立場で、あなたの職業分野やそこで働く人々に出会う意図があり、しかし必ずしも仕事に繋げる必要のないものを指します。 apprenticeship - これは特定の職業の訓練を指します。 大抵、これは仕事につながります。

  • I went to the supermarket to gain an insight into the workplace.

  • I went to the supermarket to learn about the workplace.

The noun 'insight' used in the first statement has several meanings, but, in this context, it means 'an accurate and deep understanding'. You can only gain an accurate and deep understanding of the workplace if you physically go there and observe how people work.. This may not be enough to be called workplace experience because of its briefness. So,you may say: I went to the supermarket to gain an insight into the workplace. In the second statement, you say it succinctly and use the verb to 'learn' which has several meanings, but, in this context, it means to 'gain or acquire knowledge of or skill in (something) by study, experience, or being taught'. You may say: I went to the supermarket to 'learn' about the workplace.
最初の表現で使われている'insight'と言う名詞は沢山の意味があります。 ここでは 'an accurate and deep understanding'(正しく理解を深める)と言う意味で使われています。 実際に働く現場に行ってみて職場を見学することによって、正しく深い理解が出来るものですよね。 "workplace experience"では少し簡潔な表現なので十分にこの意味を表現することはできません。 そこで、次のように表現することが出来ます。 " I went to the supermarket to gain an insight into the workplace." (スーパーマーケットに行って職場体験をしてきました) 二番目の表現では簡単に 'learn'と言う動詞を使って表現しています。 この"learn"もいろいろな意味がありますが、ここでは 'gain or acquire knowledge of or skill in (something) by study, experience, or being taught'. (スキルなどの正しい知識を学んだり、教わったりすることによって得る)という様な意味になります。 次のように表現することが出来ます。 "I went to the supermarket to 'learn' about the workplace." (スーパーマーケットへ行って職場を学んできました)
