I haven’t heard from you"（返信をまだ受け取れていない）のように "I" を主語にすると丁寧です。

I purchased [商品名] on [日付] (Order #[注文番号]), but I haven't received a shipping confirmation yet.

Could you please check the status of my order?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

I would like to inquire about [商品名].

I just wanted to check if my order #[注文番号] went through.

I would like to cancel my order #[
※ as I accidentally ordered it twice.
※ as I ordered the wrong item.

I received the wrong item.

I ordered [注文した商品], but I received [届いた商品] instead.

Please send me the correct item / a replacement.

ホテルのフロントで "Could you break this $20 bill into ones?"

A. はい。

Could I get some change?

Can I get singles?

Thank you. Here you are.

I don’t need change.

Check please.

Is the tip included?

「年の終わりと始め」といいたいなら、 the end and beginning of the year のように表現できます。

「大晦日」は New Year’s Eve、「お正月」は New Year’s Day（元旦）です。

The New Year season is one of the most important times of the year for Japanese people.

All the Christmas decorations are swapped out for New Year’s ones in the blink of an eye.
※in a/the blink ＝ 「瞬く間に」

The main symbols of the New Year are the pine, bamboo, and plum. Each represents happiness and longevity.

Many Japanese people gather with their families to ring in the new year, while others enjoy countdown events or go out to watch the first sunrise of the year.
※Good fortune ＝「幸福」。

At the end of the year, we say “Yoi otoshi wo” to each other to wish for a good year ahead.

“Yoi otoshi wo” is a year-end greeting used to wish someone a good start to the coming year.

In Japan, December 31st is considered a day of purification, and people spend it busily doing a major year-end cleaning.

A lot of Japanese people clean their houses thoroughly at the end of the year.

Soba noodles are the signature New Year’s Eve dish in Japan. They symbolize longevity.

It’s a tradition for Japanese people to eat “toshikoshi soba” on New Year’s Eve.

There’s a TV show that gets tremendous ratings on New Year's Eve.

It’s a music competition between male and female singers.

The ratings, although declining, remain around 30%. They used to reach as high as 80%.

At Buddhist temples, the bell is rung 108 times starting at midnight on New Year’s Eve.

"Akemashite omedeto gozaimasu” and “Kotoshi mo yoroshiku onegaishimasu” are greetings used to wish someone the best in the new year.

Such greetings can also be seen in business emails.

The first visit to a temple or shrine in the new year is called “Hatsumode."

Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples are crowded with people who visit to offer prayers for the new year.

You’ll also see people dressed in formal kimonos.

People enjoy drawing omikuji, a type of fortune-telling slip that predicts how their new year will go.

You’ll also find many food stalls selling delicious treats.

New Year's Day is celebrated with a special feast called Osechi-ryori.

Osechi-ryori usually consists of a variety of small dishes.

It is traditionally served in Jubako, which are stacked lacquered boxes.

Rice cakes are an essential part of the New Year's feast.

A rice cake prepared in soup, called Ozouni, completes the New Year’s menu.

There are many types of Ozouni, each unique to different regions.

Kagami-mochi is a set of stacked round rice cakes topped with a small orange, offered to the gods.

There is a custom called "otoshidama," in which money is given as a New Year’s gift.

Children receive “otoshidama” from their parents and other relatives.

A ”nenga-jo” is a card that is sent as a New Year greeting.

People prepare a stack of New Year cards to exchange with family, friends, customers, and clients.

Exchanging "nengajo" is a good opportunity to reconnect with people you don't usually keep in touch with.

However, it's no surprise that the number of physical "nengajo" is decreasing year by year, as they are being replaced by emails and text messages.
※"year by year" = 「年々」

Do you celebrate Christmas?

What's a typical Christmas meal in your country?

Hanami is a Japanese tradition of viewing cherry blossoms in spring.

White Day is a holiday celebrated in Japan on March 14th, exactly one month after Valentine's Day. It's a day when people, especially men, give return gifts to those who gave them chocolates on Valentine's Day.

Unlike in Western countries, where Valentine's Day is for both men and women, in Japan, women usually give chocolates first, and men return the favor on White Day.

Do you know about White Day? It's a special day in Japan!

On White Day, men give gifts in return for Valentine's Day chocolates.

In Japan, White Day is almost as important as Valentine's Day!

→ extra reason to show my love（さらに愛を伝える理由がある）という表現で、特別な日の雰囲気を演出できます。

White Day is mainly celebrated in Japan, South Korea and a few other Asian countries. It’s not common in Western countries.

It’s a day to return the favor.

White Day is all about giving back.

In Japan, there are two types of Valentine's chocolates: ‘honmei choco’ for someone special and ‘giri choco’ for friends or colleagues.

他にも Girls’ Day や Dolls’ Day、Doll Festival などと表現する例もあります。

The third of March is Hinamatsuri / Girls’ Festival / Girls’ Day / Dolls’ Day / Doll Festival.

It is a day to wish for the healthy growth and happiness of girls.

A girl's very first Hinamatsuri is an especially important celebration.

Families with little girls will display a set of traditional dolls called Hina Ningyo or Hina Dolls in their home.

Hina dolls are modeled after the emperor and empress of the Heian period.

The emperor and empress are attended by three court ladies, five musicians, and lots more people and items.

The dolls and items are placed according to the traditional order.

The dolls are thought to catch illnesses and other misfortunes on behalf of the girl.

Chirashi sushi is the signature dish of Hinamatsuri meals.

Chirashi sushi literally means “scattered” sushi.

Chirashi sushi is a bowl of sushi rice colorfully decorated with seafood, egg and vegetables.

Chirashi sushi is usually eaten with clear clam soup.

Hishi-mochi are rice cakes in pink, white and green layers that represent peach blossoms, snow, and the grass beneath.

Hina-arare are bite-sized sweet rice crackers that also come in pink, white and green.

May 5 is a public holiday called Children's Day.

It was formerly a day to pray for the healthy growth and happiness of young boys.
