I failed in the reading section on this test, so I am going to focus on my reading skills for another half year.
リーディングの部分ということで、
reading sectionという言い方といたしました。
リーディングの能力を強化するということで、
reading skillsに力を入れるというような表現となっています。
力を入れるというのには、他にも、
I will work hard on/ I am going to study especially on
などということもできます。
I did poorly in reading last time, so I worked really hard on it for six months.
My reading score was pretty bad last time, so I spent six months working on reading.
I did badly in the reading part of the test last time, so I put a lot of effort into it for six months.
英訳1：ある動作に関して「うまくいかない」ことを表す場合、ネガティブな副詞を添えることで表現できます。「まずく」や「下手に」という意味の poorly を入れて did poorly で「うまくできなかった」「満足な出来でなかった」「ダメだった」などのニュアンスになります。
英訳2：TOEIC に関することなので、score を使うこともできますね。my reading score was pretty bad で「リーディングがダメだった」となります。
時間を費やす時に使う spend を使って、spent six months working on reading「リーディング（の勉強）に半年間費やした」と言うことで、「リーディングに頑張った」というニュアンスが伝わります。
英訳3：例文1の poorly を badly に換えても同じことが言えます。
effort「努力」を使い、put a lot of effort into ~ で「〜に努力する」となり、頑張ったことが暗示されます。
その他の例文：
- My score was really low in the reading section, so I buckled down for six months.
- I performed poorly in the reading section last night, so I worked on my reading for half a year.
