"Do you know-? "「〜がわかりますか？」という質問の仕方の方が丁寧で相手も困らないかもしれませんが、「教えてもらえますか？」とお願いするのもありです。
その場合には「気に入ったから」とか「好きだったので」とか理由を付けると良いでしょう。
You do not have to be specific about the question - you can ask a general question like 'what is it?'
