●a foreign student
①と同じくらいすぐに浮かんでくるのが, a foreign student（留学生<直訳：[外国人](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/32627/)学生>）だと思います。もちろん伝わるのですが, 最近はこの表現が避けられる傾向があります。foreignは「外国の」の意味ですが, 「異質な」「無関係な」（場合によっては「有害な」）の意味ももちます。ですから, 留学生にforeignという言葉を使っていること自体, 「距離をおいている」「差別的」といった印象を与えてしまうかもしれないのです。ニュース番組（例.
