文化勲章＝Order of Culture; Order of Cultural Merit
日本における勲章は、個人の功績や業績を国家が表彰するための制度として明治以降に整備された
The system of Orders and Medals in Japan was developed after the Meiji Era to recognise individual achievement and contributions.
意味：国家などが個人に対し、功績や業績を表彰するために与えるメダルや装飾です。
①②の動詞形「decorate」と「award」は勲章を授ける
We laid our uncle to rest wearing all of his medals.
我々は、おじさんの全ての勲章をつけている状態で、彼を埋葬しました。
The mayor pinned a decoration on the soldier.
市長は兵士に勲章をつけた。
She was awarded [decorated] for distinguished services.
彼女は手柄を立てて勲章を授けられた。
「勲章」は英語で「award」か「medal」と言います。「medal」の方が勲章自体が示している表現で「award」は他の形でも現れます。
デーブは戦争の勇敢な行動のおかげで勲章を与えられました。
Dave was given an award for his heroism in the war.
サニーのお父さんは軍にいた時の勲章をたくさん持っているそうです。
I heard that Sunny's father has many medals from his time in the military.
「勲章」という言葉を英語で伝えると、「medal」という言葉も「decoration」という言葉も使っても良いと考えました。複数形は「medals」と「decorations」です。例えば、「He received a lot of medals and decorations during his time as general.」という文章を使っても良いと考えました。「Received」は「もらいました」という意味があって、「during his time as general」は「彼は将官の時代に」という意味があります。
日本語の「勲章」が英語で「decoration」か「a medal」といいます。
