「地中海」は英語で 'the Mediterranean sea' と言います。
単に 'the Mediterranean' とも言います。

(1) The Mediterranean Sea 、(2) the Mediterranean, (3) Mediterraneanは三つとも「地中海」に相当しますが、(1) the Mediterranean Seaは地中海の海のことで 地中海地方の場合は(2)の the Mediterraneanと言い、地中海リゾートや地中海食などは、(3)の Mediterraneanを使います。
