「熟読する」は
read thoroughly
thoroughlyは「徹底的に・じっくり」という意味があり、「じっくり読む」となる。
同じように read slowly and carefully とも言えます。
「ゆっくり注意深く読む」ことは熟読と言えます。
You should always read though a contract thoroughly.
「契約書はいつもじっくり通して読むべきです。」
I read a book about World War II recently. It was fascinating so I read slowly taking in every word.
「第二次世界大戦の本を読んだ。とても面白かったので、一語一語を理解するようにゆっくり読んだ。」

「熟読」という動作の英語表現を、名詞として紹介していきます。close [careful] readingは主に「熟読」、intensive readingは熟読の中でも「精読」のイメージが喚起させられる表現になっています。またperusalは"peruse"(熟読する）という少しフォーマルで硬い英語表現から来ています。
