「迎え酒」は英語で hair of the dog と言います。
これは昔、狂犬病の治療に、犬に噛まれたら、噛まれた犬の毛を傷口につけると治るという迷信からきています。迎え酒も同じように、二日酔いには二日酔いにしたお酒を飲むことで治そうとするのでこのように言われているようです。
例：
You should take a little hair of the dog that bit you last night.
「二日酔いには少しの迎え酒が良いよ。」
hair of the dog の代わりに nip of the dog とも言えます。
A wee nip of the dog that bit me last night might help with my hangover.
「二日酔いには少しの迎え酒を飲む」
wee「ほんの少し・ちょっぴり」
nip「噛む」
