The official name is 'mental arithmetic'. However, if someone tells you to work it out without a calculator, they might say 'work it out in your head' 'do it in your head'. These are very casual phrases, a more formal way would be 'calculate it in your head'.

If you do maths or adding up in your head and not with a calculator it is called 'mental arithmetic' although you could also say to 'calculate/work out in your head'

Both examples tell the listener that you need a moment to think about the problem as you are doing the calculations in your head. Mentally just means in ones own mind. Both ways allowed the other person to know you are trying to work out the problem.
どちらも「今頭で計算して（問題を解こうとして）いる」と伝える言い方です。
「mentally」は「in one's own mind（頭の中で）」という意味です。
どちらの言い方でも、今問題を解こうとしていることが伝わります。

So 'mental arithmetic' is doing these calculations without the aid of a calculator

If you do something such as a calculation or difficult mental process without the assistance of technology or physical props, then you may say that you have done it 'in your head.'
If you use a calculator, you would say something like:
"I worked it out using a calculator."
計算、または難しい心理作用等を、テクノロジーによる支援、または物理的な支えなしに行う場合、in your head（頭の中）で、それをしたと言えるでしょう。
電卓を使うなら、下記のように言えます。

"I'm working it out in my head." - This is a common native expression used when we are doing a quick calculation with the use of a calculator. We usually do this when we need to calculate small sums, example: the tip we're about to leave for the waiter, the price of two nights accommodation, the change we should be getting after paying, etc.
'...in my head' refers to our mental capacity.
