男装って英語でなんて言うの？

When a man or woman dresses in clothes of an alternative gender, then they are referred to as 'cross-dressers'. "I saw Mark in town wearing a skirt and blouse. I didn't know he was a cross dresser!"

There are a few ways we can describe a female who dresses in male clothes. Sometimes, a female will prefer to dress and act manly or masculine instead of dressing and acting very feminine. An informal word for this is 'tomboy'. The word is quite common, but it may be considered offensive to some people and not to others. A formal name we give someone like this is 'cross dresser' ('cross dressing' is the verb form). Please note, however, that 'cross dresser' can refer to both genders, not just females. Therefore, it can be used for men who dress in female clothes as well.

A tomboy is a girl/woman who often shows the characterises of a boy/man. Often tomboy's are young girls up to late teens in age, but can sometimes if they decide to, carry on these characteristics or behaviour as they get older to. In the UK a lot of girls who are tomboy's have older brothers and copy their behaviour. Some people may also refer to this behaviour as 'masculine'. "She's wearing men's jeans. That makes her look a bit masculine."

A tomboy is usually a teenage girl that tends to dress more manly by wearing trousers/jeans and tops rather than girly clothes like dresses/skirts etc A cross dresser is a man/woman who dresses in the opposite sex clothes so a man who dresses as a woman or woman who dresses as a man

There are three major terms used for this definition. If you are talking about a trait or a behaviour you can use "masculine". For talking about a person "manly" is the best choice. If you want to add a bit of a negative connotation to the phrase, use "macho" but remember, this does have a negative implication towards the person.

These three words are all used differently but for the same purpose. "Masculine" is the more formal way of saying "manly" whereas "Brawny" is a more informal and less popular way of describing one's manliness. And "strapping" is an older and much less used way of describing one's manliness.
