ビリヤードは英語でそのまま billiards と言います。しかし、アメリカでは大体ビリヤードのことを pool（プール）と言います。イギリスは billiards の方が多いと思います。例えば、「去年初めてビリヤードに挑戦しましたが、コツをつかむのが難しかったです」と言いたいなら I tried pool/billiards for the first time last year. It was hard to get the knack of it と言えます。「こつをつかむ」は英語で get the knack とよく言います。
