棟って英語でなんて言うの？

"棟"を英語で説明する時は、その建物の使用目的や機能によって名称が異なります。ホテルの宿泊施設であれば "accommodation building" や "guest wing" などと呼びます。大学の実験施設であれば "laboratory building" や "research wing" と呼ばれることが一般的です。 決まった表現を使いたい場合、"This is the [building's purpose] building, and that is the [another building's purpose] building." という形を使うことができます。"building" の前にその建物が何のために使われているかを表す単語を置きます。

Building 「棟（建物全体の単位）」 Wing 「〇〇棟（本館から伸びる病棟や客室棟などの区画）」 上記のように表現することができます。 独立した建物なら Building A, Building B、大きな建物の一部・別館のような棟なら East Wing, West Wing などと呼びます。 例文： This is the Science Building, and that one over there is the Research Wing. 「こちらは科学棟で、あちらが研究棟です」 ぜひ参考にしてみてください。
