「master」というのは、熟達することです。完全に使い方が分かっていて、もうほぼそのことの使い方のプロになったというわけです。

「gotten the hang of」というのは、使い方がほぼ分かっていたということです。更に、「前には使い方が分かっていなかったけど、今は使いこなしている」というニュアンスもありますから、この状況にぴったりと思います。
