「Catastrophic」(カタストロフィック)は、日本語で「壊滅的、破滅的、悲惨」と言うように訳します。

事故で悲惨な怪我を負って、その直後なくなりました。
He suffered catastrophic injuries in the accident and died soon afterwards.
