机上の空論って英語でなんて言うの？

日本語では「机上」と言いますが、英語では on paper（紙の上） と言ったりしますね。 Looks good on paper but won't work. 主語は it や that が省略されています。 「紙の上では良く見えるが、うまく行かないだろう」 というような言い方をよくします。

ご質問どうもありがとうございます。 様々な表現があると思いますが、いくつか自然な表現を紹介します。 「sound good in theory」「 look good on paper」は一番使いそうな表現ではないかと思います。それ以外にも、下記の言い方が考えられます。 １．This may look good on paper, but I think this is a utopian idea with little to no practical application in real life. 机上ではいいかもしれませんが、実際はリアルに何も応用性がなく、「どこにも無いところ」の概念です。（PS = utopia = どこにも無いところ) ２．It sounds good in theory, but it probably won't work in practice. 理論上ではいいかもしれませんが、応用の視点から実際にはちょっと無理です。 ３．（議論中の会話）This looks like a classical armchair argument to me. armchair argument = 理論の現実のみをもとにされた考え方　 お好みに合わせて使い分けてみてください。 ご参考にしていただければ幸いです。
