I decided to start keeping a journal to idle away my time in the hospital. (入院中暇つぶしに日記をつけ始めました。) I began keeping journal to pass the time in the hospital. (入院中暇つぶしに日記をつけ始めました。) I write journal to dawdle away my time while I was in the hospital. (入院中暇つぶしに日記をつけ始めました。) In order to relieve the boredom, I started to keep a journal while I am in the hospital. kill time は便利なフレーズで「暇つぶしをする」という意味です。 kill という単語を使う点がおもしろいですよね。 I often browse in a bookstore to kill time.（わたしはよく書店を冷やかして暇つぶしをする。） We got to the airport early, so we had to kill some time.（空港に早めに着いてしまったので、少し暇をつぶさなければならなかった。）
