「食べ物の好みに特にうるさい」といった表現の英語が近いと思います。
a silly prejudiceは直訳すると「愚かな偏見」ですが、
この表現ではそこまで強い意味はなく、「ほんの偏見」
とうニュアンスです。
「～の食わず嫌い」であれば
a silly prejudice against～
と言います。
この表現は食べ物だけでなく、人とかにも
使えるので便利です。

There ar emultiple ways to express that you don't want to ever try some food. First of all "it looks gross" is like saying不味いそうif that's correct (I'm not 100% sure) but asides from this remember to say "I'd rather not try it" or simply "no thanks"
You can mix in other phrases in there like "No thanks, I just hate the look and smell of it. I'd rather not try(eat) it"
Sample Dialogue:
Takahide: Hey Josh, you want to try uni sushi?
Josh: uh, what's that? It looks kind of strange.
Takahide: Uni means sea urchin in Japanese. It takes good on the sushi.

食べ物を試したくないことを表現するために、さまざまな方法があります。

To be turned off from something is an informal expression to say that you have lost interest in something or someone.
