日本ではコンビニにも売っているアメリカンドッグですが、
外国の友人に「アメリカンドッグが好き」と言ったら通じませんでした。
本来は違う言い方なのでしょうか？

「アメリカンドッグ」は corn dog と言うのが一般的です。
日本での呼び方と違うので最初は驚きますよね。
（例）
I like corn dogs.
