I like Umeboshi, which are salt pickled plums.

Umeboshi is made from a fruit in English called a 'plum'. The plums are pickled, meaning that they are left to stay for a long time in a salt and water mixture. The taste of umeboshi or 'salted plums' can be described as 'salty', 'sour', or 'tart'. For example: Japanese pickled plums have a very tart taste. Japanese salted plums are served with rice dishes. Note: tart = sour dish= a special type of meal made with certain ingredients e.g., 'rice dish= a type of meal made from rice'
Japanese pickled plums have a very tart taste. (日本の梅干しはとっても酸っぱいです) Japanese salted plums are served with rice dishes.

This is a deep-red, sun-dried (heavily salted) pickled Plum;-D Traditional japanese , that is everywhere; served with rice this savoury dish is enjoyed ONLY by those who like tart and sour flavours! (not me) "I cannot eat Umeboshi... it is just too sour for my tastebuds!"
【例】 "I cannot eat Umeboshi... it is just too sour for my tastebuds!"

Actually. it is more like an apricot than a plum and is preserved in pickle jars just as people in the UK do with onions and other things like eggs and cockles. A: "What is that!" B: "It's an ume fruit that's been pickled - mmmm, delicious!"
【例文】 A: "What is that!" B: "It's an ume fruit that's been pickled - mmmm, delicious!"

Some foreign food names have no exact equivalent in English. So, using the native word is perfectly acceptable. Some other Japanese culinary loanwords in English are "sushi" and "umami." If you are explaining this dish to someone who is unfamiliar with it, you can say "Umeboshi is a pickled plum that is sour and salty."
"Umeboshi is a pickled plum that is sour and salty."

Umeboshi is a sour tasting, sun-dried, salted plum, dark red in colour and enjoyed in savoury dishes in traditional Japanese cuisine.

例えば、「Many foreign people don’t like the taste of pickled plum.」
