即位って英語でなんて言うの？

即位は英語でenthronementと言います。throneは「王位」や「王座」という意味ですので、enthronementの文字通りの意味は「王座の上に座られる」となります。王位を自分の手に入れる、ということです。ちなみにascension to the throneとも言えますが、長いのでenthronementのほうが言いやすいです。 例文 We watched the enthronement ceremony on TV. 即位式をテレビで見た。 Since today is the day of the emperor's ascension to the throne, it is a public holiday. 今日は天皇即位なので祝日になっている。
