"flip"は、あの２つ折り[携帯](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/43370/)のパタパタ開け閉めできる様子のことです。
ガラケーが必ずしも２つ折りというわけではないけれど、「スマホと古いガラケー」の対比をするときにも比喩的に使われたりするので。
例：
Do you have a smartphone or do you still use a flip phone?
あなたは[スマホ](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/42582/)を持っていますか、それともまだガラケーを使っていますか？
それにしても、ガラケーってなんだかすでに懐かしい響きですね！

The 'garakei' phone has no direct translation but in English we call them 'flip phones'. This is because we use the verb flip for the motion of opening and closing the phone.
These phones are though of as outdated in most countries now. The word outdated means something is old, not cool or that there are better versions now.
In American English the word cell phone is used but British English uses mobile phone.
I rather like old style flip phone. I don't need a smart phone.
New phone models come out on to the market with alarming frequency.
Some of us prefer the familiar tried and tested flip phone!
We don't all need the latest and greatest smartphones and besides that fact new devices cost a small fortune.
