兄弟が剣道をやっていることを説明したいのですが

剣道は日本のスポーツなので、説明が必要ですね。
Kendo といえばわかる人もいますが、ほとんどわからないでしょう。
説明するときは it’s a traditional Japanese style of fencing.

と言いましょう。
