There are several ways to ask this question. Here are a few other ones. "How many people are in your party?" (Party is another way to saying group.) "How many seats do you need?" "Seats for how many?" Generally, when you walk up to a host, they will assume you have adults in your party, but they might also ask.... "Are there any children?" 1 - This is used for a large group which cannot be easily counted. 2 & 3 - If the group/party is small and easily counted you don't want to appear dumb or unable to count. You can ask if there are others (people), who are not currently present, that will also need seating at the table when they arrive.

Most restaurants have tables for a specific number of people e.g two sitter or ten sitter. You can also ask them directly and say "How many are you?"
