「手作りすると既製品を買うより高くつく」は、

"Homemade is more expensive than store-bought."
"Store-bought is cheaper than homemade."

と言ったりします。

「手作り」は、

"homemade"
"made at home"

「既製品」は、
"ready-made”でもいいですが、
アメリカでは"store-bought"の方が一般的でした。
