「the world leader in ～」とは普通は「～の主要メーカー」と言いたいときに使うでしょう。国民が火山を作っている国がもちろんないから、「the world leader in volcanoes」というのはちょっと変です！
国民のおかげではなく、偶然そうなった場合では、例文2の方を使った方がいいです。
