「mobile suit」（「モビル・スーツ」）はガンダム特有の呼び方ですね。
実は、「巨大メカ」は海外でも既にSFやアニメなどで一つのジャンルとして（主に日本の影響を受けて）確立しており、

Enormous is an adjective. It means that something is extremely large in size. I have listed below different ways you can use the word "enormous" in a sentence:

Mecha is more associated with Japanese genre of animation and people overseas who are familiar with Japanese genre would understand your meaning. But for other people who don't know, calling a robot with the adjectives "Gigantic", "Huge", "Enormous", and "Humongous" would convey the idea that this robot is very big and similar to the American movies Transformers.

Mecha is a term that refers to scientific ideas revolving around advanced technology and large robots. When explaining this to a person you can simply call it a large robot or tell them a Mecha Robot. These robots may be automated or controlled by humans. You can make references to movies such as Transformers.
The giant, military robots of Japanese animation like Gundam are a common theme. In the US we have "the Iron Giant" which is a movie about a giant robot. We also have Goldrake, Jeeg and Transformers. But the Transformers change into other things like cars or tanks, but they are still giant robots, only sometimes referred to as "autobots". One can use any word that describes "big": enormous, huge, gigantic, colossal. A very new, modern term is "ginormous". There are not many other words for robots though, cyborg or artificial intelligent metal being. The stories say the robots are usually made out of metal such as iron, steel, copper, lead or even titanium.
