Jockeyship is the art or practice of riding a horse. In the UK, a jockey is usually associated with horse racing or professional horse riding.

The terms to describe riding a horse vary greatly between American English and British English.
To leisurely ride a horse is called horseback riding in American English, but it is called equestrianism or horse riding. As a sport, horseback riding has more specific terms. For example: polo and vaulting with horses. The different ways or skills of horse riding have varying names as well. For example: steeple chasing or driving.
乗馬の言い表し方は、アメリカ英語とイギリス英語で大きく異なります。
のんびりと乗馬することを、アメリカ英語では"horseback riding"と言います。
ですが、イギリス英語では "equestrianism"や"horse riding"と言います。

Like many sports, there are different disciplines within 'horseback riding'.
'Show jumping' consists or a short course made up of many jumps, and the rider and horse have to follow this course without knocking any of the jumps down. A round of the course can typically be about one and a half minutes or so.
'Dressage' is not about speed or jumping but about a riders control of what the horse is doing. It is almost like ballet for horses.
There is also 'cross country' horseback riding which is made up of a longer course at around four miles (6km) and consists of many jumps, water traps and other obstacles.

The verb used for travelling by horse is "ride", due to the body position and in a similar fashion to that of a bike or motorcycle.
Therefore if you want to talk about it as an action, "ride a horse" would be the most appropriate.

If you wish to refer to it the name of a sport (as such, a noun) the phrases "horseriding" or "horseback riding" are most commonly used, though formally, such as in the Olympics, it would be referred to as "equestrian events".

Show jumping is a sport that requires riding a horse but is done for entertainment and involves the horse jumping and going round a course within a certain time and not knocking any of the jumps down
