for the first timeであっていますよ〜！

The first time we met.＝初めて出会った時
We met for the first time.=私たちは初めて会いました。

For the first time で全然問題無いです。
Meet （会う）よりちょっと難しい言葉を使いたければ、encounterも可能です。
The first encounter = 初めての出会い
From our first encounter... = 私たちが初めて会ったときから。。。

We met for the first time.
私たちは初めて出会いました。

I met ... for the first time.
私は初めて〜に出会いました。

It was the first time we met.
私たちが出会ったのは初めてでした。

上記のように英語で表現することもできます。
for the first time で問題ありませんよ。
