「彼女はケーキができたかどうか確かめるためにオーブンを開けた。」
こちらも「開けた」と過去形なので、if節も過去形にしてあげます。

"whether he wants to do this"
「彼がこれをやりたいのか」
そして、後ろに "or not" を付け加えると「もしくはやりたくないのか」と表現することができます。
"I will make sure whether he wants to do this (or not.)"
「私は、彼がこれをやりたいのかどうか確かめます。」
