「検定を受ける」は英語で “to take a test” または “to take an examination” と言います。
If you are learning Japanese I think it is important to take the Japanese Language Proficiency Test and get a certificate - 日本語を勉強しているなら日本語能力試験を受けて、資格を取った方がいいと思います

Why don't you try giving up alcohol for a month?
・examinationやexamは「試験」や「検定」の事です。
話す時はexamというのが一般的です。
（例）
I have an exam tomorrow so I can't go.
Her exam will be on Tuesday.
The examination will take place on campus.
