Why do I, a parent of a high schooler, have to do (this/the/his/her) summer math homework (instead of him/her)?
まず、主語は Iとa parent of a high-schooler(高校生の親)をコンマでつなぎ、
a high school student や
summer math homework
それに instead of him/her (代わりに)や、for him/herをつけると更にわかりやすくなりますね。

Why do parents like me have to do their high school age son's math homework for him over the summer holidays?
Why do parents like me have to do their high school age son's math homework for him over the summer holidays?
to do one's high school age son's math homework for him over the summer holidays「高校生の息子の夏休みの宿題を息子のためにする」と言えます。
