「裾のほつれが広がっていた」は英訳すれば、「The frayed hem stretched out.」になります。「The frayed hem」は「裾のほつれ」を表します。そして、「stretched out」という英単語は「広がった」という意味です。
具体的に「スカートの裾のほつれ」の場合、「The frayed hem on the skirt」と言います。上記の英文と同じように最後の部分にそのまま「stretched out」を置きます。
