「～を手掛かりに内容を推測する」って英語でなんて言うの？

While watching an English news programme, I guessed what it was about from a few words I could pick up and also the video. （英語のニュース番組を見ている時、聞き取れたいくつかの単語と映像からそれが何についてかを推測した。） 「聞き取れた」の部分は「I could pick up」としました。 この場合の「推測する」はguessでOKです。「内容」はcontentsという英単語がありますが、ここでは what it was about とする方が自然かと思います。 参考になれば幸いです。

この場合、次のような言い方ができますよ。 ーto guess what XX is about from the few clues I got 「手がかりからXXの内容を推測する」 例： I was watching the news in English, and I guessed what the news was about based on the few words I could understand and the video. 「英語でニュースを見ていて、聞き取れたいくつかの単語と映像からニュースの内容を推測した」 ご参考まで！

guess what ~ is about from ... infer the content from ... figure out what ~ is about based on ... get the gist of ~ from ... 「～を手掛かりに内容を推測する」は、英語ではだいたい 「A（手掛かり）からB（内容）を推測する」 という形にします。 ポイントは「手掛かり」の言い方です。 手掛かりは clue / hint / cue / context などで言えます。
