この場合、次のような言い方ができますよ。

ーThere is another dog over there.
「あそこにもう１匹犬がいる」
another で「もう一つの・別の」

ーThat's the second dog we've seen today.
「あれは今日見た２匹目の犬だ」＝「今日２匹目の犬だ」

There is a second dog! でも大丈夫ですよ。
