Could you check the bill again please - it seems a bit over the top?
Is this bill right? It seems a little steep.
If a bill is 'steep' it means that the total price seems high. When asking someone to check a bill, or in any situation where you are querying someone's ability or efficiency, we tend to use modifiers which help soften the enquiry : 'a bit', 'a little' etc.
steep'には「〔請求書の総額が〕高いと感じる」という意味があります。
請求書を確認するよう頼むときなど、相手の能力を疑っている場面では、質問を和らげる修飾語句を使うことが多いです。例えば:
'a bit'(少し)
'a little'(少し)
By saying 'excuse me' then you are getting someone's attention politely and in a nice way.
If something is 'incorrect' then it is also said to be 'wrong' or 'not right'
you could also add 'could you check for me please?' just to make sure it is right
excuse me'(すみません)は、人の注意を引く丁寧な表現です。
「間違っている」は、'incorrect'や'wrong'、'not right'と言えます。
'could you check for me please?'(確認していただけますか)と加えて、確認してもらってもいいです。
Excuse me, but it looks like we may have been overcharged.
I'm sorry, but I think we were overcharged.
This is a polite way of informing the service staff that there seems to be a discrepancy (difference) between what the bill says and what you think the right calculation should be.
Even though you are not wrong, saying "I'm sorry" shows that you are being very polite and respectful towards the server.
Pardon me' is just another way of saying 'Excuse me'. An 'error' is a mistake, and you can use the preposition 'on' or 'with', whichever you prefer at the time. Sometimes if something is incorrect we say 'it's not right.'
Pardon me'は'Excuse me'(すみません)の別の言い方です。
'error'とは「間違い(mistake)」のことで、前置詞には'on'か'with'、どちらか好きなほうを使えます。
何かが間違っているときには、'it's not right'(正しくない/間違っている)と言うことがあります。
The first sentence I provided is a way to point out to the staff an item on the bill that you believe is an error. For example, if your bill lists an order of French fries and you did not order one, you would say "I don't remember ordering this." while pointing at the bill.
If the total seems to high or too low and you are concerned about it, the last two sentences will tell the service staff of your concern.
Bill and check are interchangeable in this situation and you can use either one.
最初の例では、お勘定の中に注文した覚えのない物があることをスタッフに指摘しています。例えば、お勘定に注文していないフレンチフライが載っていたら、請求書を指さして、
"I don't remember ordering this."(これは注文していません)
と言えます。
総額が高すぎるまたは低すぎると感じるなら、最後の二つの例が使えます。
"bill"と"check"(お会計/勘定書)はこの場合置き換え可能で、どちらを使っても大丈夫です。
