an opening=「空洞の部分」
Rear loarders have an opening at the rear.=「後部収集型は、うしろに空洞があります。」
つまり、車の胴体の部分に、大きな穴が空いている状態ですね。
①=「ホッパー」クレーン車の先にある、先のとがった歯がついていて、人間の上下の歯のように開いてゴミをすくい取り、また他の場所でその歯を開いて、ゴミを捨てるような形の部分。
ゴミ収集車のゴミを投げていれるドアの部分です。
②=「（俗にいう）プレート」入って来たゴミを圧縮して、車体の内部へと押し込む部分。
①が開いて、②がゴミを奥へと入れて行く状態を想像出来ると思います。
車体の中にある空洞部分は、opening
その扉の部分は、hopper
その奥にある圧縮盤は、packer blade

The rubbish truck manual describes the hold for the rubbish as the 'refuse hopper,' however, in the UK we would just say, for example, "The bin men put the rubbish in the back of the rubbish lorry." The area where the rubbish is placed is also the floor of a compression chamber where the rubbish is compressed to save space in the lorry, so this area could also be referred to as 'the rubbish compressor' especially if you want to talk about items being squashed or compressed.
