途中までは新幹線で行って、その後、特急に乗り換えます。って英語でなんて言うの？
レッスン中に「旅行へ行く」という話をしたところ、先生に「どうやって行くの？新幹線？」と聞かれました。
新幹線の通っていないエリアへ行くため、途中で乗り換えが必要なのですが、うまく説明できませんでした。
ちなみに、Shinkansenという単語は先生が先に言われたのでご存じのようです。

"partway"
は出発点と目的地の間にどこかの場所を指しているんですね。"Part of the way"もぴったりですね。書いた通り、「目的地までの全体的な距離の一部」のことですね。
"halfway"
はスタートからゴールまで半分ぐらいっということですけど、partwayと同じような使い方も出来ます。
「新幹線」は知っている人は知っているけど、一番知られている言葉は"bullet train"ですね。"Shinkansen"と"bullet train"どっちも使ってOKですけど、一番セーフな選択肢は"bullet train"かもしれません。

相手がすでShinkansenという日本語をご存知であれば、そのように言ってしまってもよいでしょう。
特急列車は、limited expressという単語が一般的ではないでしょうか。
乗り換えは、changeやswitchを使います。
より分かりやすくするために、
"Ｂecause the bullet train doesn't go until my destination, I have to take the local limited express."
「新幹線は私の目的地までは行かないから、ローカル線（在来線）の特急に乗らないといけないんだ。」
と説明を加えるといいかもしれませんね。

「新幹線」は英語でそのまま shinkansen と言うことができます。
伝わらない場合は bullet train という英語表現が便利です。
