Dental surgeon' is the name given to the person who advises, checks and in cases operates on or repairs, removes and attempts to maintain healthy teeth and gums. This person is commonly referred to as, 'the dentist,' meaning a family or local dentist or dental surgery. 'The surgery' is the place where the dentist carries out periodic checks and does procedures. More serious problems may be referred to the local hospital.
