ご存知の通り、分詞構文には接続詞（例えば"when"等）はつけないことが多いですが、主節と従属節の関係をはっきりさせたい場合などの例外はあります。特に"when"は顕著なように思われます。
また、"when ~ing"は構造上あくまで分詞構文であるため、基本的には主節と従属節の[主語](https://eikaiwa.dmm.com/uknow/questions/55875/)は同じでなければなりません。ひとつめの文で、"when talking"とするには、主節の主語と従属節"when"以下の主語が同じ"he"である必要があります。
