This phrase means to meet someone for the first time. This is a phrase that is common in our everyday conversation. It would make a great addition to your vocabulary.
"How did you two meet?" This is asking how the couple met. It makes it clear that you are referring to the 2 people that you are asking and not someone else.
"Where did you meet?" This asking the two people where they met each other. This leads them to tell you the story of how they met and where it was.
