「〜してしまう」というのは英語の直訳がありません。
ですから「単語」ではなく、単語の「感覚」から考えましょう。
この場合は「予想しなかった結果が出る」というニュアンスで使うので「end up」を使います。
I went to the store just to look, and ended up buying many things.
I traveled abroad, but ended up eating Japanese food.
１回だけではなく、よくあることだったら現在形を使います。
When I travel abroad, I end up eating Japanese food.

In the first sentence, you are saying that it does not matter where you are, in Japan or abroad, you would rather be served with Japanese cuisine any time.
You have used the verb 'serve' to mean 'present (food or drink) to someone'. 'Serve' has other meanings but in this case, this is what it means.

When abroad means when in another country so to say " i always end up eating Japanese food even when abroad" means you enjoy it whether at home or in a different country
