この文を2つに分けて考えてみます。 ①Tell me the reason. ②You did not come for the reason. になります。 この2文を関係代名詞を使って 1文にします。 ①の文のthe reasonと②の文のthe reason が共通なので、②の文のthe reason消して その代りに関係代名詞のwhichを用いて文をつなぐと Tell me the reason which you did not come for. となります。 この文でも正解ですが、この文の最後の forを whichの前に持ってくると、 Tell me the reason for which you did not come. になります。 こちらの文の方がやや堅い文になります。 この文は Tell me the reason why you did not come. とも書けます。 関係副詞のwhyは先行詞がreasonだけなので why=for whichと考えて頂いて大丈夫です。 （reasonにつく前置詞はforなので） Tell me the reason ( ) you did not come. の ( ) に何が入るかを考えるときは the reasonが、 you did not come.の どこに入るかを考えます。 you did not comeの後に入りますが、 you did not come the reasonでは 意味が通りません。 you did not come for the reason.
