それで、これは私の解釈なんですが、生きるために、選ぶ手段は大体通常のルール通りですね。ルールを守ったら必ず生き残るわけです。
でもジョージ・ソロスの父が言ってたのは、そうじゃないです。
それで、Your survival depends on recognizing that the normal rules don't applyは日本語で「生きるためには手段を選ぶな」になったようです。

You have to choose the way to live your life.

You must select the method to live your life.
「you have to choose」は「あなたは選ぶべきだ」を指す。アドバイスするとき「you have to」をよく使う。「生きるために手段を選ぶな」はアドバイスみたいので「you have to」を使った。そのあと「the way to live your life」は「生きるためには手段」ということです。
「you have to 」より「you must」の方が強く言い方です。「you must select」は「絶対選ばなきゃいけない」を指すので強い表現です。そして、「method」と「way」はほとんど同じ意味です。

"Do whatever it takes to survive."
と言うことも出来ます。
"do whatever it takes"は、「手段を選ばない」
"survive"は、「生き残る」
という意味です。
