ただ、この場合も、in cities と 比較する場合は in the countryside と「田舎」の方にも in を付けます。
また、countryside は一語です。

openingという名詞を使っていますが、この方が「新規の開店」がすっきり伝わると思います。
一方、最初の回答は「都市」「田舎」について
urban area（都市部）
rural area（地方）
という表現を使い、urban areas を主語にした文にしています。
（この場合は主語が than 比較の対象なので、どちらにも in は付きません。）
