生活保護って英語でなんて言うの？

生活保護はアメリカでは主に「welfare」と言います。

イギリスでは「Benefits」を使います。

アメリカでは社会保障制度（Social Security）の中の、連邦補足的保障所得制度（Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program）が生活保護を支払います。

Low-income families who are struggling to find employment to pay for life's essentials, such as housing and nutritious food, may receive welfare as SSI benefits.
「家賃や食料品といった生活必需品が賄えない失業者などの低所得家族は、SSIからの援助として生活保護を受けることになる」

生活保護は一つの言い方は welfare です。これはアメリカ英語です。イギリス英語ですと the dole になります。なので、「生活保護を受けています」を言いたいなら I'm on welfare / I'm on the dole と言えます。何故かは分らないですが、dole は必ず the が付きます。I'm on social welfare とも一応ですが、この言い方は滅多に聞かないですね。
